The triumphant moment comes after the “2 Be Loved” musician sat down for an interview in March 2024 with The New York Times about her then-new swimsuit line, evolving perspective on body image, and the general shift away from the concept of body positivity to body neutrality.
At the time, Lizzo was taking a break from touring and shared how she had been using that period to prioritize activities that made her feel good, including exercise.

“Im taking the time every day to put some love into my body,” stated Lizzo, adding that she never regrets going for a walk or practicing Pilates. The singer, who was also dieting, went on to reveal, “Ive been methodical, losing weight very slowly.”

During the interview, Lizzo was also honest about not always viewing her body in a positive light. “Im not going to lie and say I love my body every day. The bottom line is, the way you feel about your body changes every single day,” confessed the star.

As a figure in the public eye, Lizzos appearance has been heavily scrutinized on numerous occasions. However, the singer made it clear that she is not fussed with what naysayers have to say, clarifying, “My body is nobodys business.” The “Juice” artist echoed similar sentiments in another interview she did with Vanity Fair back in 2022.

At that time, she still subscribed to the concept of body positivity. When she was asked about whether she would get exhausted from constantly talking about the discourse and if she felt as though she had been put into an inescapable box because of her weight, Lizzo initially quipped, “I cant fit into a box!”

She then expressed, “You mean if I lost weight, what would happen? Is my music and my weight so intrinsically connected that if I were to lose weight, Id lose fans or lose validity? I dont care! I lead a very healthy lifestyle—mentally, spiritually, I try to keep everything I put in my body super clean.”
Lizzo concluded her statement by re-emphasizing how much health is a priority for her, explaining that she became a vegan not to lose weight, but because she feels better when she eats vegan food.

Like her interviews, Lizzo has also been vocal about her weight journey via social media posts. In 2023, she shared a video on TikTok in response to a woman who said she did not use weight loss as a way to escape being heavier set.

After agreeing with the womans reflections, Lizzo listed all the challenging things she has to do as an artist, such as singing, rapping, dancing, playing the flute, being emotive and active, and wearing tight clothes that sometimes restrict her breathing.

“I think a lot of people see a fat person that way and immediately just assume everything theyre doing is to be thin. Im not trying to be thin […] Im used to fluctuating. However, the goal is always here,” shared Lizzo, as she pointed to her head.

“Once I started working out for mental health, to have balanced mental health for endorphins, so that I dont look at myself in the mirror and feel ashamed of myself and feel disgusted with myself, exercise has helped me shift my mind, not my body. My body is gonna change, everyones bodies change, thats life,” divulged the artist toward the end of the video.
